Kingsmead Twins with Kampala Primary School
Kingsmead has been working with Gerry Tissier, a local community ecologist and EcoACTIVE, the sustainable education charity, supporting the development of a green, flowering corridor in this part of Hackney: the Hackney Buzzline project, which is being created to support pollinating insects.
A member of a green youth movement in Kampala, Hannington Sserwanga, came across news of the Hackney Buzzline on social media and decided to go about creating a Buzzline in Kampala to support Kampala's pollinating insects. This has led to a wonderful opportunity for Kingsmead to twin with The New Brain primary school in Kampala, who are involved in helping to create the Kampala Buzzline.
In February 2025, Hackney Buzzline's ecologist, Gerry, visited Kampala in Uganda, attending the launch of the Kampala Buzzline. He delivered a lovely package of insect and butterfly masks, made by Kingsmead’s Year 4 class and our Junior EcoTeam, to the children at the New Brain school. They were really happy to receive them, as you can see from the photos below. Gerry returned from his trip with some lovely gifts for Kingsmead children, made by the children at the New Brain school in Kampala.
Here are some photos of the Kingsmead children making the insect mask gifts and the children in Kampala receiving their masks.
